The woods!

Acrylic and colored pencil on 6"x8" Vellum paper.
This is the last and final illustration for this long Project, that I started JUST one week ago!  I had a good three weeks to do it but ultimately with 2 other projects a few redesigns, work, this got pushed to the very last minute.  BUT I LOVE IT!
This project proves that I can theoretically illustrate a book soon in the future. There are 5 other illustrations that go along with this one before it.  And it is like a little mini, adorable children's book... C:
Tomorrow I get to present it along with a caribou book that I completely designed on the computer that I'm also so excited about.  Then ... I am done with this semester and on to the next after Christmas.

winter fox

I think this is just adorable, I played around in Photoshop, I actually played not huffed and puffed struggling to understand it. This is a concept design of what I'm planning to do on paper for my next assignment in 2 dimensional design.

18" x12" construction paper cut out
this is one complete piece of paper with everything connected, just a bunch of well planned holes in it.
This is my third project for 2 dimensional design. I'm pleased with how easy it was for me but then I am also displeased because I could have pushed myself to make it just a bit better. This almost always happens for every thing I make. At first I'm soo impressed with myself then by the time I finish all I can think about is what I could do better for a next project.
also I would be much more content if I would have realized deer don't have human back legs, theirs are bent opposite. Honestly Heather, who will notice?!

Wild and Curious

Wild and curious and slightly sad looking.
I spent 9 hours working on this today for my Desktop design class.  It was equally frustrating but exciting.
This is only half of what I wanted to do with it, but for now I'll live with this and if I get time I'll add on all the texture that is gona be the fur.

Winter is coming

"Winter is coming"
I've finally sat myself down and done an illustration using traditional inked lines on paper then coloring it on photoshop. I'm very pleased with the outcome and it was very easy.

Riley study

All of these random pictures will make sense at some point when I post what I'm making based off of them. They are really just here for my reference while I'm doing studio work in class.  But for now just enjoy this smoking GORGEOUS picture of my cat Riley C:

bike rides in the summer

A reflection on what I've been doing with most of my summer. I've been biking around the twin lakes and neighborhoods stopping by the shore line and just enjoying summer.  It's already starting to get colder and that's starting to make me sad.

A request from one of my best clients C:
acrylic on glazed ceramic. Not sure how long it will last, because you could literally wash off all the paint in a bucket of water so easily but for the time being I know she will love it.

Not really, I don't have a server to support it but it could be up if I did!  This is my final project for my webdesign class at NHCC and it took me 6 HOURS this morning! FRIG, but I had the whole computer room to myself so I filled it up with some mum and Lisa Hannigan C:
There are still a lot of problems with it, and I TRIED to fix them but I'm only 12 hours into my 1 million hour run to being a master, so time will fix them.
For now I'm happy with it, I'm glad to say it's more then I could have ever imagined when I started this class a month ago.
Now I go for a bike ride!

A colorful happy painting for a soon to be wed cousin.
watercolor and colored pencil on paper 5X7"
I don't believe I heard myself when I said There won't be many more small paintings done due to my summer classes.  Lately that's all I've been doing, and all I want to do.

in the Doldrums

Schools almost over, but that also means schools close to starting again.  I have one more assignment for web design, and maybe a book cover to do but then I'll be good.  I want to finish a few projects before the end of summer and go places but my mood has slowly been sinking.  It finally feels like summer though, up in the 80's, the sunlight is hot and there's a screeching noise that always comes at this time of year. I'm sure I'll be cheering up soon and out of the doldrums.
At least 3 weeks spent in English class learning a book called The Phantom Tollbooth and I will never forget the word DOLDROM EVER! That was literally a nightmare in a book.

Skating poster

My 2nd assignment for my illustration class,
this one is a poster design as a promotion for active older adults for Skate land.
This is the first time I have done this style in such large scale. It was very nerve racking, but I'm very pleased especially with the portrait.

A birthday card for a friend of mine that I met in school at NHCC. She's working on the same degree as I am and is quite the artist herself. I'm very pleased to have met her C:

A quick little painting I made off of the book cover image on Call the Midwife, a memoir I'm currently reading.  This may be one of the last small paintings I will have done, due to the fact that I will now have 3 college classes to attend every week until early August.  Already I have an assignment to illustrate an image for a random article for my illustration class and I can see I will be busy trying to get that done in 2 weeks.

Happy (grand)mothers day

A card for my mother's mother. The other day Dad, Kyle Her and I went out to lunch for Grandmother and mother in law day.  She's always so sweat and darling.  I couldn't help but smile at her curled hair.  It's now paper white with the ends still yellow like they were dipped in gold.

Acrylic on Illustration board

Commission for a classmate I had in High school.
He's a kind, lighthearted guy who until recently I found is the greatest guitarist I've had the pleasure of knowing.  Yet I still haven't been able to see him perform, and really would love to.  You're an amazing person Obi.  I'm constantly impressed with how much your excelling with your talent.  It was a pleasure to create this for someone as equally creative. I'm glad you asked me to make this for you C:

Thank you card

A commission piece for my Manager!
She asked me to do a piece for her after she heard about my 1st and 2nd places in the NHCC gallery.  My amazing co-worker was excited to spread the word and show whoever my art. My manage had a look at my blog and immediately showed me a picture of an adorable great Dane. She wanted the piece as a thank you card for her room mate that she is moving away from now that she is getting her own house.  The dog is her roommate's and the cat is hers.

Self Portrait, Triadic

Acrylic on illustration board
Triadic color scheme: (yellow green, blue purple, red orange) with black and white

This portrait was really fun to do.  On my regular blog I posted the picture I used for this.  I was able to create this really deep shadow on the side of my face which is now a deep mysterious blue shadow.  I also set up the background with odd decorative picture frames that helped carry the whimsical feel I was going for.
I'm always surprised when ever I do a project as big as this, it somehow gets easier and less stressful with every new one.

Friday, April 4, 2014

This is another color experiment for my color theory class based on a painting by Franz marc called "foxes".  I had to recreate the painting in a triadic color scheme (yellow orange, red purple and blue green).  It's toward the end of the semester and again I'm getting swamped. next I have two more big projects including a self portrait.

But I can now say I'm greatly relieved. Yesterday was the opening night to the NHCC student art gallery and I came just in time to accept two awards granted to me. I won a 2nd place (there were 2) for painting on my self portrait and a 1st place on my illustration of the color quilt.
Up next I have a small collection of my art being displayed in the NHCC campus center for the art's festival and I might be more excited for that one just in the fact that it's a  collection and looks cohesive.

Paper Doily

This afternoon was my cousin's wedding shower and in a last minute I made this lovely card for her.  I completely designed, first drawing out the design on paper, then I scanned it onto my laptop.  From there I used this cool cutting printer I got for my birthday and it cut the design out like a little doily.
I'm very much excited for this wedding, it's been over 10 years since the last one and I really do enjoy big events like that.
All my best wishes for the soon to be newlyweds C:

A lot of watercolor with a little acrylic and some imagination. TO think that I did all but one of these today shows that my painting class is definitely improving my diligence.

Kevin Love

Watercolor on Illustration board
A Birthday card for Swag Socks ( I'm borrowing that nickname M C:) This was a fun piece to do especially sense I knew it would make him laugh. I don't know anything about this Kevin Love basketball player but I do hear him in the news a lot. Every time I do I only pay attention to his last name, so strange for a last name but makes him a complete heartthrob.  This Piece is almost like a bromance, which just made it hilarious. You're very welcome Swag Socks, happy birthday.

Last week the day before a couple of my friends and I went to see Frozen in theaters A girl on my Facebook asked if I could make a picture of this adorable character. I thought "Absolutely"! I always respected this girl and she's been a friendly person all throughout middle school and High school. Promptly after the movie I made sure to paint this funny little snowman.

Color wheel quilt

This was another assignment to do a color wheel but instead I had to use recycled materials. I started with a base painting and built up the painting with scraps of paper and magazine clippings.

Sledding with M-C smiles

This is how it looked (exactly) when I went over a huge snow jump, like 3 feet high! I most certainly could have broken my neck but instead I landed standing up and then tumbled the rest the way. It worked out and It was an amazing end to the day with my great friend M, who nearly killed herself a few times as well.
